GOD’S WORD IN MY HEART.

Joshua 1:8 NKJV
[8] This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Introduction:

As we start a new year, it is important to get our priorities right. As we set goals, it is important to set the right goals. Your primary and number one goal this year must be SPIRITUAL GROWTH OR DEVELOPMENT. Every other thing rests on it. Hear what God told JOSHUA.

HOW DO WE GROW SPIRITUALLY

All of our relationships are based on trust.

As true Chritisan, you must have given your life to Christ. You do so because you can trust Him. The basis of that trust is what we read about him and His plan in the word of God.

THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY AND SUREST WAY TO GROW SPIRITUALLY.

1 Peter 2:2 NKJV
[2] as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

1. Our salvation depends on it, since the Bible says we are:

“born again…from the eternal, living word of God. – 1 Peter 1:23 (NLT)

2. Our sanctification depends upon it – Jesus petitioned the Father with these words:

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. – John 17:17 (NLT)

3. Our assurance of eternal life  depends on it, for the Scriptures say:

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. – 1 John 5:13 (NLT)

4. Our healing and deliverance depends on it.

Psalm 107:20 NLT
[20] He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.

5. Our divine direction in life depends on the word of God.

Psalm 119:133 NLT
[133] Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.

6. Our success and prosperity in life depends on it.

Joshua 1:8 NLT
[8] Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

7. Wisdom for right thinking, right decisions, right conduct, right relationships depends on it.

Proverbs 4:5 NLT
[5] Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.

8. Our Victory over the devil and his demons depend on it.

Matt.4:4,7,10. The devil and JESUS traded the word of God and quoted from scriptures in the battle at the wilderness.

IN 2020 and beyond, if you want to be an exclamation point rather than a question mark, a champion rather than a chicken, a victor rather than a victim, you want to know God and do exploit rather than be exploited, you need to befriend, behold and believe the bible as the word of God.

THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD AND THERE ARE MANY EVIDENCES TO SUPPORT IT.

As a lawyer, to get you to believe and agree with my point, I must supply you with proof or evidence.

1. SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

Skeptics seem to think that the Bible is filled with scientific errors.

The ancients believed the earth was resting on pillars, or even seated on the backs of elephants. But today we know the earth is suspended in space, a fact the Word of God records in Job 26:7:

Job 26:7 God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. – Job 26:7 (NLT)

For centuries man believed the earth was flat, but the prophet Isaiah, writing 750 years before the birth of Christ, revealed that:

God sits above the circle of the earth. – Isaiah 40:22a (NLT)

Isaiah explained that the earth was a globe centuries before science discovered it.

When Ptolemy charted the heavens, he counted 1026 stars in the sky. But with the invention of the telescope man discovered millions and millions of stars – something that

Jeremiah 33:22 revealed nearly three thousand years ago when he stated:

“…the stars of the sky cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore cannot be measured.” – Jeremiah 33:22a (NLT)

HOW DID THE WRITERS OF THE BIBLE KNOW THE TRUTH OF SCIENCE LONG BEFORE MEN KNEW IT AND WENT TO SCHOOL.

2 Peter 1:20-21 NLT
[20] Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, [21] or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

BLACK PLAGUE

When the black plague was killing one quarter of Europe’s population in the 14th century, it was the church, not science that helped overcome the dread disease.

The leaders in the church noticed the instructions given by the Lord to Moses in Lev. 13:46 concerning those with infectious diseases:

As long as the serious disease lasts, they will be ceremonially unclean. They must live in isolation in their place outside the camp. – Leviticus 13:46 (NLT)

These early believers did not know microbiology or understand what germs were, but they could understand a clear teaching to quarantine someone who was sick. So they followed the Biblical mandate, quarantined those sick with the plague, and stopped it from spreading.

The Bible had its science correct even before man discovered the truth!

2. HISTORICAL EVIDENCE.

Today, archeological discoveries now confirms the truth of the bible. They once said, they didn’t k ow how to write in the days of MOSES until they found tablets containing business transactions written in the days of MOSES.

3. EVIDENCE OF AGREEMENT

The Bible thought written by different people in three languages, yet has but one theme: salvation – It has one hero: Jesus. It has one villain: Satan – It has one purpose: to glorify God. How could this incredible book be written apart from divine intervention? There was clearly a Master Architect who designed this book, giving it a wonderful unity.

4. PROPHETIC EVIDENCE

We believe the bible because of the fulfilled prophecies in it. There are over 300 prophecies of JESUS in the OT that are all fulfilled in the New Testament. It is said that the OT is the NT concealed and the NT is the OT revealed. What a unity. God is indeed not an author of confusion.

5. EVIDENCE OF ENDURANCE

Another reason we can trust the Bible is that it is always alive. No book has endured as much opposition. Men have laughed at it, scorned it, burned it, and made laws against it. At times it has been illegal to even own a Bible. Men have preached its funeral – but the corpse has outlived its funeral directors.. The Bible has survived. Despite all the attempts to bury the Bible, it has continued to endure. No other book can make that claim. The ancient religious manuscripts of the pagans have disappeared, but the Bible continues. The wisdom of great men is often forgotten by succeeding generations, but the wisdom of God remains intact and available. The Word of the Lord endures forever. That unique quality makes me believe that this is a special book.

Conclusion:

If you want to grow spiritually this year, grow to maturity as a christian, succeed in life, get wisdom and understanding in life, discovered who you are and why you are here, live a life pleasing to your Creator, succeed with good success in life, know the secret of prosperity and prosper, get insight and foresight to secret things, make heaven and live with Christ in eternity, you must believe, behold and befriend the Bible.

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
[15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Numbers – water in the desert

Deuteronomy – He becomes the curse for us

Joshua – Commander of the army of the Lord

Judges – delivers us from injustice

Ruth – our Kinsman-Redeemer

1 Samuel – all in one, He is the Prophet/Priest/King

2 Samuel – King of grace & love

1 Kings – a Ruler greater than Solomon

2 Kings – the powerful prophet

1 Chronicles – Son of David that is coming to rule

2 Chronicles – the King who reigns eternally

Ezra – Priest proclaiming freedom

Nehemiah – the One who restores what is broken down

Esther – Protector of his people

Job – Mediator between God and man

Psalms – our song in the morning and in the night

Proverbs – our wisdom

Ecclesiastes – our meaning for life

Song of Solomon – Author of faithful love

Isaiah – Suffering Servant

Jeremiah – the weeping Messiah

Lamentations – He assumes God’s wrath for us

Ezekiel – Son of Man

Daniel – the stranger in the fire with us

Hosea – faithful husband even when we run away

Joel – He is sending His Spirit to His people

Obadiah – Judge of those who do evil

Jonah – the greatest missionary

Micah – He casts our sin into the sea of forgetfulness

Nahum – proclaims future world peace we cannot even imagine

Habakkuk – crushes injustice

Zephaniah – the Warrior who saves

Haggai – restores our worship

Zechariah – prophesies a Messiah pierced for us

Malachi – sun of righteousness who brings healing

Matthew – the Messiah who is King

Mark – the Messiah who is a Servant

Luke – the Messiah who is a Deliverer

John – the Messiah who is a God in the flesh

Acts – the Spirit who dwells in His people

Romans – the righteousness of God

1 Corinthians – the power and love of God

2 Corinthians – He is the down payment of what’s to come

Galatians – He is our very life

Ephesians – the unity of our church

Philippians – the joy of our life

Colossians – holds the supreme position in all things

1 Thessalonians – our comfort in the last days

2 Thessalonians – our returning King

1 Timothy – Savior of the worst sinners

2 Timothy – leader of the leaders

Titus – foundation of truth

Philemon – our Mediator

Hebrews – our High Priest

James – He matures our faith

1 Peter – our hope in times of suffering

2 Peter – the One who guards us from false teaching

1 John – source of all fellowship

2 John – God in the flesh

3 John – source of all truth

Jude – protects us from stumbling

Revelation – King of Kings and Lord of Lords,

The Alpha and the Omega,

The Beginning and the End, and

He is coming again and the One who makes all things new.

PRAYER

1. Father, I repent of all my lazy attitudes towards the bible.

2. Father, give me an unquenchable appetite and desire for your word from now on.

3. Lord, open my eyes, my heart, my eyes and my understanding as I read study and meditate on your word from now on.

4. Lord make me a doer or your work not hearer and reader only from now on.

5. Father, send your word and heal every department of my life and deliver me from the evil one in Jesus’ name.
