Topic: Making the most of every opportunity (Part 1)
Preacher: Pastor Leke Sanusi
John 5:3
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
John 5:7
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
Whatever will stop your visitation heaven will not answer them.
Matthew 11:12
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
Genesis 38:28-29
28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.
Text: Judges 13:2-11
2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.
3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.
8 Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.
10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and showed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.
11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
Ephesians 5:15-16
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
What is opportunity?
It is the promoter of change. A change occurs as a result of maximised opportunity.
Nothing major happens in life without having an opportunity.
Opportunity can bring about healing.
Somebody has been in the church today, as a result, to be serviced by the Holy Ghost. Opportunity can lead to freedom. It can bring about promotion; A destiny marriage can take place.
Genesis 24:15
15 And it came to pass before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
Opportunity is like a spark of fire and what you do with it will determine whether you can keep the fire burning.
Opportunity does not wait for you forever.
John 12:35
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
Someone said – “show me a poor man and I will show you a man who passes over opportunity repeatedly”.
It is said: “Success always comes when preparation meets opportunities”.
There are different types of opportunities
1. Opportunity to move to the next level. David had an opportunity to move from the desert to the palace. 1 Samuel 17: 4 & 1 Samuel 17:13, 26.
Numbers 13:2, 17, 31 – 2 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them. 17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
2. Opportunity to meet destiny helpers and encounter them. 1 Samuel 9: & Genesis 18: Be kind to people and learn to offer help.
2 kings 4:8 – 8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. Hebrews 13:2 – 2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Galatians 6:10 – 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
3. Opportunity for kingdom harvest and kingdom prosperity.
Genesis 26:12 – 12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
“A pessimist sees difficulty in everything and an optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty”.
80% percentage of successes in this world happens because God connects them to destiny helpers.
4. Opportunity for kingdom service. When you serve with diligence God will always reward you.
Colossians 3:23 – 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
“When you work with integrity you will walk out austerity into prosperity”.
Many people through greed has messed up golden opportunities.
When you win souls for Christ may be one of your golden opportunities.
Proverbs 11:30
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
